Daily Show: Appholes

(http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2010/04/iphone-finder/) The iPhone finder/thief did not even bother contacting ANYONE, and he got an acquaintance to help him find a buyer. The people here who crossed an ethical line are Gizmodo (for buying a news scoop) and the finder , not Apple. This isn't just a usual tech leak, this was a clear case of dishonesty and smoke-screening by Gizmodo and the iPhone finder/thief.... more

But John Gruber actually has a fair and balanced take on this issue, unlike Jon Stewart. Steward is misrepresenting facts, leaving out important details like the prototype was stolen, and whoever found it never informed anyone at all for 3 weeks, despite knowing the identity of the Apple engineer since he could access his Facebook app on the iPhone prototype. And Gizmodo paid for the prototype, is that even ethical journalism (something Stewart himself always raves about?) Jon Stewart it's time you act...... more

There were no Apple police, the police had a warrant issued by a judge of the superior court in San Mateo County, not Apple; Apple has no ability to launch a criminal investigation. And Apple has been praised by Greenpeace for its environmental track record (http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2010/01/greenpeace-gives-apple-gold-stars-for-green-efforts.ars)... more

Hmmm you should read http://daringfireball.net/2010/04/gizmodo_prototype_iphone for a detailed explanation as to why this isn't just a normal leak and why Gizmodo crossed numerous ethical lines to get this scoop. For example, the person who stole the phone knew who it belonged to since he could access the Apple engineer's facebook app on the iPhone prototype. Yet the thief chose not to contact the engineer or the bar or Apple for 3 weeks before selling it to Gizmodo.... more

Hmmm perhaps you 3 peeps should read the details: Gizmodo purchased a STOLEN prototype, and that is supporting THEFT. California's Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team raided Jason Chen's house with a warrant issued by a judge of the superior court in San Mateo County, not Apple. Jon Stewart is as bad as Fox News he reports an overly-emotional narrative that is pre-determined. (He has pre-determined that Apple is wrong and Gizmodo is somehow in the right for purchasing stolen goods, and he is falsely...... more

Facts: Gizmodo purchased a stolen prototype. Journalists cross an ethical line when they purchase information or a product just for a scoop, since it colors their reporting. Imagine TMZ.com paying for photos taken by journalists who broke into the homes of movie stars. Gizmodo outed the Apple engineer who lost the iPhone prototype instead of the thief who stole and sold it. How is damaging a person's career considered ethical? Gizmodo and the thief failed to inform the bar where the iPhone was stolen ...... more

Gizmodo violated the law by purchasing a STOLEN iPhone prototype, there is evidence to believe someone STOLE the iPhone from the Apple engineer while he was at a the bar. (http://daringfireball.net/2010/04/gizmodo_prototype_iphone) The Daily Show misrepresents the whole situation by failing to point out that the prototype was STOLEN goods, and that society has a moratorium on journalists using money to purchase STOLEN goods just to get a good scoop. Imagine if TMZ.com had paid money to journalists who...... more
